Playboy Magazine Owner (Founder)
Hugh Hefner is an American magazine publisher, entrepreneur, and founder of “Playboy” magazine, a magazine that reveals photographs and articles that provoke charges of state of quality.
The first issue of playboy was published in 1953, featuring Marilyn in a nude calendar shoot, and its copies sold over 50,000 counts. Hefner attended the University of Illinois, after serving in US Army.
Four years later he created the men's magazine, Playboy. The intellectual article and philosophical statements made Playboy a major influence on the sexual revolution of 1960.
Further, he expanded his enterprise into nightclubs and other entertainment media.
Playboy Magazine Photography
He is also most famous for a photo spread, but Playboy has also published a general article which was of high quality.
Its interview with celebrities and other big shot people gained good attention. Hefner articulated Playboy philosophy in the pages of his magazine which advocated personal freedom for both men and women in all things including sex.
Through its support of that belief and its popularization publishing the sexual photograph of the woman was not only acceptable but healthy.
It contributed to the so-called sexual revolution in the United States in 1960. The format and approach were imitated.
From 1950 to the early ’70s, Playboy circulation and advertisement was increased which reached a point of 7.2 million copies which sold in November 1972 and the average sale was 5.6 million copies per issue in 1975 but in 1980 it gradually decreased because of two reasons
- the first was that because a sexual Revolution which continued to advocate has largely been won interpreting its image less interesting and less challenging.
- and the other reason that its faced new competition from other publications such as “Penthouse” which featured more explicit nude photography. By the end of the decade, Playboy circulation has reached 3.4 million. After that, the company established the website playboy.com in 1994 which was also an immediate success.
